My dream is Change
Some people fear change of any kind. Some are indifferent and take it as it comes. I have begun to crave it like a nothing I ever have my entire life. In a lot of ways I think that realizing it’s time for change is the most important step in creating change. It certainly was for us.
I do not want this blog to be political. There is no sense or point to rehashing all that drama in yet another place. I, in fact use this as my escape. My focus on a dream and a hope for the future. But the biggest reason for this change we have sought to start within our family did start with the change that happened in America in November of 2016.
I awoke the morning of November 9th knowing that if I didn’t do something to create change chances were no one else would . I couldn’t just trust anymore that someone else would. Unknowingly, probably for decades, I had been relying on the hope that “others” or “they” would crate a world I thought was worth living in. And for whatever reason that morning I had had enough of waiting for some imaginary person, or group of people to control my destiny.
It was my epiphany on exactly what the Lorax meant by “UNLESS”. Unless someone like you ……. That was my Ah Ha moment.
The Beauty of America
Change it would seem is in the air, everywhere and around every corner. Its too late to change any of the everything that is going on around us. But I feel one of the greatest tools Americans posses is the ability (and right) to be different. To think different, and want different things. A fact that most people have lost sight of.
I really wish that people didn’t need everyone around them to agree with them to validate their point of view. I only wish that simply being American was validation enough. That they could in fact have a different point of view than their neighbor, boss, son, or daughter and know that as an American its OK. And that the acceptance of others is also facilitating others to accept them. You know the circle of life. You get what you give. Stuff we all should have learned in kindergarten.
This country is full of ideas, opinions, points of view, stories, history and all of them differ from person to person. And that’s what makes this country so great!!!
I don’t really know how to combat this need for validation. It would seem everywhere surrounding everyone are people who share an experience with the assumption that simply sharing their story somehow obligates the listener to change their opinion. Instead of just sharing their story because they can.
We are all free to hold that opinion as Americans, no other reason or number of people agreeing with you is needed.
Hope for the future
My hope is that in traveling, meeting different people and experiencing life through their eyes. Our goal being that we can all begin to realize that being human is a shared experience with other humans, everywhere. And really there is no right or wrong, just different experiences.
Change is wonderful, we are constantly changing everyday in many ways. I do try very hard not to regress or repeat the mistakes of the past. Forward movement is our ultimate goal of most given days. Sometimes they movement is very minute, fractional to an outsider but welcome by us as not regression.
Being an American is a shared experience and having an opinion does not need to be validated by anyone. You have the right to that opinion just as much as any other person. We are not here to judge others, we are here to help people who need help.
Maybe when we start helping others we will be able to see beyond our own experience and remember we are all people in need at one time or another.
